When the Moon Hits Your Eye, by John Scalzi. On day one of this story, the moon turns to cheese. That's the whole premise of this science fiction comedy, and it's not just the moon, but all the bits of moon rock currently on earth. The story takes a little while to get started, as the beginning has various characters learning of this impossibility, debating if it's real, and trying to come up with an explanation. The book feels less like a novel than a series of vignettes, although some characters recur. NASA grapples with what to do next. A minister puzzles over whether this is the work of God or the Devil. A Hollywood executive endures endless pitches for moon-themed comedies with cheese puns in the titles. A spoiled-brat billionaire is determined to be the first to land on the new cheese moon, despite warnings that it's unstable. Then a huge chunk of moon breaks off, and while it's expected to take two years to get here, it threatens Earth with annihilation in the most ridiculous way possible. Like a big pizza pie, this book is delicious silly fun, with serious moments scattered in.
