You're Married to Her? by Ira Wood. This is a sorta-memoir with a few slices of writer Ira Wood's life. The "Her" in the title is his wife, Marge Piercy, and the question came up because they're a reverse cliche: she was fourteen years older, twice divorced, and a much more successful writer than Wood when they got together. But the book isn't about her, it's about Wood's misadventures. Wood's style of comedy is self-deprecating to the point where he seems to delight in recounting humiliations. The time he told his high school girlfriend he was a tragic orphan, and what happened when both their families discovered the lie. The period when he used cocaine to fuel his writing, certain that it was doing wonders for him - until an embarrassing episode of impotence. His adventures on the town council, where petty grievances routinely turn into blood feuds. And the time he and Piercy borrowed a friend's home while the friend was supposed to be away, only to have them walk in at a really awkward moment. Through it all, Piercy is at the edge of the story, leaving Wood wondering why she puts up with him. Popsugar Reading Challenge: Paired prompt: two books by married or partnered authors.
