Popsugar Reading Challenge category: A book set during a holiday Book: The Lion in Winter, by James Goldman The Lion in Winter is a play set during Christmas during the reign of Henry II. Henry has imprisoned his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, for years, but has let her out for a less-than-festive holiday. Their three sons, Richard ("Lion-Heart"), Geoffrey, and John, are squabbling over which will inherit the throne. Eleanor favors Richard, Henry favors John, Geoffrey is is trying to decide which to back against whom. Meanwhile, Richard flaunts his French mistress Alais, who is nominally betrothed to Richard. There's so much scheming. lying, plotting and counter-plotting, that it gets hard to keep track of who's betraying whom. Somehow I don't think this is going to get turned into a Hallmark Christmas movie.
