Popsugar Reading Challenge category: A book about someone living a double life Book: Clap When You Land, by Elizabeth Acevedo Clap When You Land is a novel in verse, told by two teenage half-sisters who discover each other's existence when their father dies in a plan crash travelling between his two homes. Yahaira lives in NYC with Papi's "official" wife, and plays on the competitive chess circuit. Camino lives in the Dominican Republic with her curandera aunt, who took over caring for Camino when she lost her mother as a small child. Papi spent most of the year in NY, and summers in the DR for "business." The book has a moving portrayal of grief and family. Everything wraps up a little too neatly at the end, everyone suddenly very forgiving, but it's YA and that sense of hope is needed.
